Reflection: Reaching 100 Books/Thank You

Hello fellow readers!  Today I am coming at you with a post that I didn’t think I was going to make but here we are. It is currently raining where I reside and I thought it no better a time than to reflect upon reaching my 100 book goal on Goodreads.

This evening I updated my list and my total books read this year (so far) is 101! If you have been following the blog for the past couple of months than you will recall the dreaded reading slump that I found myself in. I have hopefully (fingers crossed) pushed past the slump and back on track.

I have had the goal of one hundred books for a couple of years now and always strive to hit my mark. This year it has become a struggle to find reading time due to work and college ruling my life. In 2016 I embarked on crazy book journeys that I never thought I would find myself on. This year I discovered my new favorite book of all time (The Bronze Horseman – I swear I can hear the groans. I’ve talked about this book to death; if you haven’t read it yet please do!!!) and I’ve discovered what I really cherish in books.

You will be seeing lots more reviews for series and books coming to my page soon as my head is bursting with thoughts and remarks that would like to be shared!

Hitting my goal has lit a fire in my reader heart and I do not think it will be extinguished soon. The love for reading books has found its way back into my life and I will forever be thankful that my dreaded slump has passed.

I have very high hopes for 2017 and I cannot wait to share the reading experiences with you all. Thank you for making 2016 quite possibly one of the best years to date. When I started Surrounded by Books I thought I was just starting something that I could post my reviews on and get some more writing practice in. This blog has become an emotional outlet (I have to get all these book feels out somewhere) and I am so glad to have gotten to know some of the fellow book bloggers here. You all have a very special place in my heart and I am forever grateful for your support. I wish you all safe and happy holidays, and here is to ending 2016 with books who love us all deeply.

With all the book love in my heart,

Samantha 🙂

Update: Changes are coming!

Hello fellow readers! I know it has been so long since I have last posted and I am so so so sorry.

I’ve been kind of all the place the past few months with my job and college. I’ve also found myself in a bit of reading slump but I am putting my foot down! I will no longer take what the reading slump is giving.

I’ve told myself that as the new year approaches (can you believe we are almost there?!) that I will be more active here on Surrounded by Books. I am ready to jump right back in both on the posting game and the reading game.

Please, let me know what new content you would like to see here on the blog and I can see what I can do! Again, thank you so much for sticking with me.

I hope you have a fabulous week ahead!

Hi there fellow readers! I hope that you are all doing well this fine Thursday. Today we are going to be chatting about this weeks This or That? topic. This happens to be the 60th topic posted and that’s pretty awesome! Big shoutout to Rae for keeping us chatting away with what is posed for the week.

For those who don’t know This or That is created by Rae over at bookmarkcronicles. Every week a bookish question is tossed out there and a choice must be made! On Fridays the topic choice winner is announced. Please head on over to her awesome blog and share some bookish love!

Let’s get started!

This Week’s Topic:

Which do you enjoy more: reading or writing?

AHHHHH!!! THIS IS KILLING ME OH MY GOD. I think I’m going to have to go with *drumroll* writing!

Now I know some mouths have dropped and people are probably thinking what the heck?! but I have my reasons. I have been writing much longer than I have been reading. Back when I was in elementary school I was writing random stories before I was picking up books and falling in love with them.

For me writing it getting my own ideas onto the page for others to enjoy. I have spent most of my life reading other peoples work, one day I would like for someone to read mine. I think that is why I enjoy writing so much more.

For me it helps with my anxiety and getting the jumble of words that are clashing in my head onto paper has always been better than reading. Maybe its crazy but thats just me.

What about you? Let me know in the comments below! I hope that you all have a great weekend ahead and I will chat with you all again soon!

Update: The Dreaded Reading Slump

Hello fellow readers! I have missed all of you so dearly. Today I am coming at you with an update.

For the past few months I have been in the driest reading spell ever before. I was able to burn through Empire of Storms (please let me know if you would like me to write a review, I would be happy to do so) and afterwards that put me even further down the reading slump hole.

I have recently gotten back into writing which is a small step in the right direction since the urge to read has been itching again. Usually the reading and writing go together so I have some hope.

If you have any tips on how to bust out of the reading slump please let me know!!!

Hello fellow readers! Happy Thursday! I hope that you are all doing smashing and are having a great week. I apologize for being so absent as of late. Work has been taking up all of my free time and school has taken up the rest.

Without further ado let’s get started!

This week’s topic:

If you were to publish a book which would you choose between writing a novel or a collection of short stories?

For some of you that don’t know I aspire to be a writer and I am working on my novel as we speak. It is a daunting task but one that I have taken on and am enjoying.

If I were to publish my first book I think I would go for a full length novel and then move onto maybe publishing a collection of short stories (maybe inspired by some of my main/minor characters). Either way I think that publishing your work is an amazing thing no matter what!

Personally, it would take me a while to publish my novel since the writing bug likes to escape sometimes and my creative genius is all over the place. When I find myself not into my novel-writing I do find myself working on small projects and finding inspiration there.

What would you do? Let me know in the comments!

I hope that everyone has a great weekend and takes care. Thank you for sticking with Surrounded by Books!

1. Six of Crows: Leigh Bardugo

This has to be my top pick for this topic. I was once asked a long time ago which book I would like to have turned into a television show and this was once again my answer. The level of creativity and suspense that this book has tops the charts and to see it on the screen would just be awesome!

2. The Westing Game: Ellen Raskin

This book happens to be a childhood favorite of mine and I personally believe that it would do well as a tv show. There is a great deal of mystery involved and those are the best.

3. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer: Michelle Hodkin

Romance, mystery, and suspense!! I again would love to see this amazing novel as a show. I think that the characters would come to life even more.

4. Darkfever: Karen Marie Moning

I would love love love to see Mac and Barons in live action! This book series is full of twists and turns that a show would be jam packed with good content.

5. Fallen: Lauren Kate

Cam coming onto my television…. yes please.

Hello reader fam! I hope you are all doing spectacular this fine Thursday.

This week’s question is…

Would you ever join a book club? Why or why not?

I absolutely would! I have always wished I could but I’ve never run across one. Personally, I feel like book clubs are a way to fan-over and chat all about a book that has been chosen. It is also a way to explore the different book options out there. Also it is a great way of making friends and that idea really sings to me.

Being able to come together each week or month with people that share a love of novels is a dream. I can only hope that one day I can be apart of one, whether that be online or in person!

Let me know what you would do in the comments below!
