Let’s get started!

This Week’s Topic:

Which do you enjoy more: reading or writing?

AHHHHH!!! THIS IS KILLING ME OH MY GOD. I think I’m going to have to go with *drumroll* writing!

Now I know some mouths have dropped and people are probably thinking what the heck?! but I have my reasons. I have been writing much longer than I have been reading. Back when I was in elementary school I was writing random stories before I was picking up books and falling in love with them.

For me writing it getting my own ideas onto the page for others to enjoy. I have spent most of my life reading other peoples work, one day I would like for someone to read mine. I think that is why I enjoy writing so much more.

For me it helps with my anxiety and getting the jumble of words that are clashing in my head onto paper has always been better than reading. Maybe its crazy but thats just me.

What about you? Let me know in the comments below! I hope that you all have a great weekend ahead and I will chat with you all again soon!

Hello fellow readers! Happy Thursday! I hope that you are all doing smashing and are having a great week. I apologize for being so absent as of late. Work has been taking up all of my free time and school has taken up the rest.

Without further ado let’s get started!

This week’s topic:

If you were to publish a book which would you choose between writing a novel or a collection of short stories?

For some of you that don’t know I aspire to be a writer and I am working on my novel as we speak. It is a daunting task but one that I have taken on and am enjoying.

If I were to publish my first book I think I would go for a full length novel and then move onto maybe publishing a collection of short stories (maybe inspired by some of my main/minor characters). Either way I think that publishing your work is an amazing thing no matter what!

Personally, it would take me a while to publish my novel since the writing bug likes to escape sometimes and my creative genius is all over the place. When I find myself not into my novel-writing I do find myself working on small projects and finding inspiration there.

What would you do? Let me know in the comments!

I hope that everyone has a great weekend and takes care. Thank you for sticking with Surrounded by Books!

This week’s question is…

Would you ever join a book club? Why or why not?

I absolutely would! I have always wished I could but I’ve never run across one. Personally, I feel like book clubs are a way to fan-over and chat all about a book that has been chosen. It is also a way to explore the different book options out there. Also it is a great way of making friends and that idea really sings to me.

Being able to come together each week or month with people that share a love of novels is a dream. I can only hope that one day I can be apart of one, whether that be online or in person!

Let me know what you would do in the comments below!

Hello fellow readers and happy Tuesday! I am back again to share my thoughts on this week’s This or That? topic. This week’s topic is a great one!

This Week’s Topic:

Do you think that some books should have trigger warnings?

Aside from yes or no I will allow a third option in which you can say that you are on the fence or unsure about it only if you provide a reasonable explanation.

I really do think that trigger warning should be provided for readers for certain books. Reading something that could traumatize someone should be warned!

I do not believe that putting a trigger warning spoils the book. I think that it forewarns what the book is going to be covering. If I knew that something was going to upset me greatly or cause me mental harm I would appreciate the warning before hand. A warning that doesn’t spoil the book but sheds just enough light on the topic/topics that are being covered is a must in my opinion.

As Rae said in her post, people read for enjoyment. No one should have to go through trauma while trying to read a book. Reading is a means of escape for some people and that escape and enjoyment should not be tampered with.

Adding a trigger warning isn’t ruining a novel, it isn’t taking away from the plot line, it is helping someone out. I think it’s pretty important to remember that.

What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below. I hope you all had a great Tuesday and are doing well!

Hello fellow readers and happy Tuesday! I apoligize for being so absent on my blog as of late. I start college tomorrow and work has been hectic!

This weeks topic:

Do you write book reviews? Why or why not? And if so where do you post them? (Goodreads, WordPress, Youtube etc.)

I do write book reviews! I actually started this blog so I could do so. I used to write them on Goodreads but then I moved over to WordPress so that I could post my reviews, organize them, and participate in other bookish posts.

I think that writing a book review is a great way to help others and get creative. Forming a review really helps with the writing process and it’s a way to get out all of those feels that a book gives you!

This Week’s Topic:

Do you (typically) read reviews of books before you read the book, after you read the book or not at all?

I am an avid book review reader. I always head over to Goodreads before I decide on which book to start and read the reviews! Usually the summaries that are given draw me closer but it is the reviews that hook me.

There have been books where the summary is so amazing sounding but the reviews aren’t too hot. I want to read as much as I can and if I can save myself the time from reading something that isn’t my cup of tea then I would much rather do that.

What about you? Review reader or no? Let’s talk about it in the comments!

Hello fellow readers! I hope that you are all doing well and having an awesome week so far!  This week marks 50 questions for This or That? and that’s pretty amazing. Big shoutout to Rae for always posing us new material to chat about and doing an amazing job!

What’s worse:

Lending a book to a friend and having it returned damaged or not returned at all?

What is one way to get me really heated? Don’t return my stuff, that’s how. IF (and yes that word must be capitalized) I lend out my books I expect them to come back to me in the happy and pristine condition I lent them out in.

I expect them to be fed, well loved, read, and enjoyed. That’s not much for a mother of books to ask for is it? No I don’t believe so. It worries me when they aren’t returned in that happy and pristine condition but it ANGERS me when my children are never returned!!! So I would have to say that having it not returned at all is possibly the worst possible thing.

I have had a handful of horror stories where my books have never been returned and I have been 1. yelled at for continuously asking for them back, 2. told to buy a new copy, and 3. told “I can’t remember where I put it :(“

Like what the heck?!?!?!

Please let me know which you think is worse! I hope you have a great rest of your Tuesday’s.
